This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) and specifically designed for those who plan a professional or managerial career in the field of operations management in one of the best paid industries. Students can specialise in e.g. supply chain management, project management, purchasing and business process management and explore these areas in the oil and gas context. The programme offers a good mixture of theoretical and practical content, with a focus on Operations Management, taught by members of the University’s Research Institute of Logistics and Operations Management. It does not require previous business experience or knowledge as everything students need to know is being taught on the course. An excellent feature of the course is the opportunity for students to gain the ability to use the world-leading SAP software.

Module details

The MSc in Oil and Gas Operations Management is specifically designed for those with little, if any, work experience since graduation, and who are seeking to engage in postgraduate study of direct relevance to a professional or managerial career in the oil and gas industry. The programme addresses all of the main areas of oil and gas operations management and aims to provide a rigorous postgraduate business and management education leading to the award of a Masters degree, and we hope to a successful career.

This intensive 12 month programme offers you a range of key benefits, each of which will contribute to your development into an effective professional or manager who is working in operations management in the oil and gas industry.

More specifically the course will enable you to:

  • Possess a thorough understanding of operations, logistics and supply chain management in the oil and gas industry
  • Apply the latest thinking on operations, logistics and supply chain management to the analysis of the key problems being experienced by the world's oil and gas companies
  • Develop the ability to use world leading SAP software to enhance business operational performance
  • Use software to manage projects to successful completion
  • Undertake your own postgraduate research work into a topic within the field of operations, logistics and supply chain management that has interest and relevance to your future career

  • Business research methods
  • Managing organisations and people (including communication, teamwork, leadership)

Operations Management Content (50 Credits)

  • Operations strategy and operations management
  • Project management (with MS Project and SAP)
  • Procurement (with SAP)
  • Management of resources (with SAP, including accounting, asset management and MRP)

Oil & Gas Specific Content (90 Credits)

  • Oil and gas logistics and supply chain management
  • Oil and gas business environment
  • Operations management in action
  • Dissertation

Entry Requirements

A recognised university undergraduate honours degree, with at least a Lower Second Class classification, or a professional qualification deemed to be equivalent.
