Cranfield Health

Cranfield Health has an international reputation for providing research, education and consultancy to the healthcare and related industries. We work with some of the most recognised names in the business – Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Quintiles, Nestle and Marks and Spencer to name but a few. Our industry links provide Cranfield students with the opportunity to get involved in solving real-life problems, and network with prospective employers.

Our leading academic and research staff conduct research in three main areas:
Biotechnology – including biosensors and biomarkers, smart materials, bioinformatics and diagnostics.
Translational Medicine – including diabetes, ageing, regenerative medicine, telecare and healthcare operations management.
Food Security and Environment – including food quality, plant science, diet and nutrition, toxicology and epidemiology, agriculture and soil science, water, air and building research.
Operating at the leading-edge of research and development continually informs our teaching programmes, ensuring they meet the future requirements of employers and students.

PhD Programmes
Cranfield Health offers fantastic PhD opportunities in health and bioscience. Our PhD students produce the highest quality research, working alongside our staff in our modern laboratories. The majority of our students undertake projects in collaboration with industry, giving them the added benefit of interacting with industry early in their careers.

The School has a variety of funded research opportunities available throughout the year. We also welcome enquiries from students wishing to pursue their own research interest and who are looking for a suitable supervisor. Visit our website for more information on Research opportunities and to sign-up to receive new studentship alerts.

State-of-the-art facilities
In 2008 part of a £30 million investment by the University saw the development of a new purpose-built home for Cranfield Health. The building houses brand new state-of-the-art laboratories and teaching facilities.

Career opportunities
93% of Cranfield students are engaged in relevant work or research within six months of graduation.

Our graduates are sought after by top employers from around the world – in industry and commerce, government and academia. Many of our graduates have gone onto work at prestigious biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, Clinical Research Organisations and Government agencies. Several Masters graduates have also undertaken a PhD at Cranfield or another University.

What our students say
“Medical Diagnostics MSc was a unique course which introduced me to new topics and enabled me to gain a wider insight into the field of diagnostics. I carried out my thesis project at the company I am now working in. By being introduced to the VLA through Cranfield University I was able to begin my career straight after finishing my course.”
