Are you interested in developing your public health knowledge and skills and applying them to your work? Then why not join the innovative Public Health Programme at Liverpool John Moores University. This Master’s level taught programme offers you an opportunity to study public health in a multidisciplinary and participatory learning environment. This approach enables you to view population health from a number of different perspectives and enhances your understanding of the peoples and processes involved in promoting public health.
Module details Public health is increasingly recognised internationally as a key element of economic and social development in low and middle income countries. As such this course provides a programme of learning based on theecognition that health is a multi-faceted concept and has many determinants; social, economic, political, environmental as well as individual. The curriculum is informed by key international strategies including the Millennium Development Goals, Health for All (WHO 1978) and updated Health 21; and the Primary Health Care: Now More Than Ever WHO Report (2008). Shared elements of the course are aligned with the UK Public Health Training Curriculum (2007) and The Public Health Skills and Career Framework (PHRU 2008). Programme Outline The MSc International Public Health s a modular based programme and is worth 180 M level credits in total. Each module is worth a number of different credits,either 15, 30 or 60 credits. Credits are gained on successful completion of a module. The programme can be studied full time or part time. Full time: MSc International Public Health (1 year) The programme starts in early September. Full time students will be expected to complete the full course within a 12 month calendar year. Part time students can structure the course around their work and life. Most students complete within two years, though there is an opportunity to study at a slower pace. Attendance Full time students will normally attend class two days per week, Part time students one day per week. Course content All students on this programme must take:

Entry Requirements The new programmes are open to a wide range of graduates or those with equivalent relevant experience. Standard entry A good honours degree, normally 2:2 or above in any related discipline. A good command of the English language is required for this programme. Normally an IELT score of 6.5 or above is accepted. Non standard entry Any participant who does not have a first degree must satisfy the programme team of their ability to study at master’s level through their demonstration of appropriate equivalent skills in the work place, for example, responsibility for report writing. The team may require evidence to be submitted, e.g. a portfolio of written and other work as part of the administration process. A good command of the English language is required for this programme. Normally an IELT score of 6.5 or above is accepted For those who do not have a good honours degree, the programme leader can take into account relevant professional qualifications (e.g. Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Youth and Community, Health Promotion, Environmental Health) and experience. Programme Assessment Modules are assessed by a variety of written assignments and presentations , including poster and power point.
