Privacy, Power and Artificial Intelligence: Regulating Data in the Digital Age

Date:15th April 2026

Time: 5-6pm

Location: Online

What does the future of privacy, technology and regulation look like? In a world where artificial intelligence is transforming how personal data is collected, analysed and deployed, can the law respond fast enough?

If you’re intrigued by these questions, or interested in studying our LLM Artificial Intelligence, Digital and Cyber Law, this taster lecture is for you.

Join Iain Nash, Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence and Technology Law, and Programme Director of the LLM Artificial Intelligence, Digital and Cyber Law for a snapshot of the critical, interdisciplinary thinking developed on this Masters programme.

Delve into key privacy and data protection challenges raised by AI, exploring how existing legal frameworks struggle to regulate algorithmic decision making, surveillance technologies and data driven platforms.

Drawing on real world examples, this online session examines the relationship between artificial intelligence, digital platforms and personal data, and asks whether traditional legal concepts are fit for purpose in an age of automated systems and predictive technologies. Students will be introduced to core regulatory debates at the heart of Artificial Intelligence, Digital and Cyber Law, including governance of online services, the protection of individual rights, and the evolving role of law in shaping the digital world.
