Masters Degree Description

This course offers a fresh, holistic approach for registered Speech and Language Therapists and Health Care Professionals who want to deepen their understanding of eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties. You’ll build both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to assess and support people with these complex needs.

Developed in partnership with Senior Academics, practising Speech and Language Therapists and Health Care Professionals, this course reflects real clinical challenges and current issues in the field. You’ll explore clinical decision making across the lifespan, as well as the legal, ethical and professional considerations that shape safe and effective practice. Topics such as mental capacity, safeguarding and how to manage difficult conversations are woven throughout the learning.

Service users and carers with lived experience play an important role in the course, helping you gain insight into person-centred assessment and management from the very start. The course also supports your ongoing professional development, giving you a strong foundation for the next stage of your career.

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for SaLT and registered healthcare professionals (including nurses) who work in settings where service users present with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.

Entry requirements for this course are normally be a good honours degree (or equivalent study at FHEQ level 6) of a recognised university or comparable institution. We do, however, assess applicants on an individual basis to determine their ability to study at Masters level if they do not have an honours degree/honours level credits.

You will need access to 50 hours of work-based learning supported by a clinical educator in a setting where service users present with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
