This course is targeted at aspiring and current managers who want to develop their managerial competences in the key functional areas of a business. It is designed to provide you with the theories, tools and techniques to support the practical management of a business.
This course is part of the MSc Business and Management programme, giving you the option of studying a 2 year MSc (with work placement). You will graduate with a clear understanding of how to achieve business success by effectively building a resilient team and aligning your people with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
All the modules are rooted firmly in professional practice and are designed to provide you with the ability to apply your managerial, human resource management and leadership skills in a variety of sectors.
Applicants normally hold a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree or its equivalent in any subject discipline.

This course is for new graduates from any degree discipline background who wish to develop their career as a manager. It is also for those already working in business, at a junior or middle manager level, and seeking to progress their career as a consultant, middle level business manager or entrepreneur. If you are looking to enter this field and have no relevant formal qualifications, this course will allow you to gain the necessary expertise.

Stage 1
You will increase your understanding of how and why business operates and focus on an organisation’s marketing strategy. You develop your knowledge and practice of the management and development of people in the workplace and will reinforce your professional skills and your transferable skills in interpersonal communication and teamwork.
Stage 2
You will critically review and manipulate a range of analytical tools to support strategic decision-making. You develop your awareness and understanding of business economics and will learn tools and techniques associated with managing the finances of an organisation and develop skills necessary to the creation of a business.
Stage 3
The Capstone module is designed to provide you with an opportunity to integrate master’s level knowledge and skills by independently working on an extended academic thesis or a business consultancy project from a degree related discipline. Personal and professional skills such as research, oral presentation and teamwork skills will be developed.
*The Capstone project can be undertaken in Year 3 or during two summer periods at the end of Year 1 and Year 2.
Extended Master’s
We offer an extended Master’s route, starting in September, on our traditional 1-year route which incorporates a 12 month placement.
