Course Description

The MSc Energy and Environmental Technology and Economics has been designed to develop skills in the cost-effective management of energy resources and in managing commercial and industrial development within tight environmental constraints.

The programme teaching is organised into modules comprising three consecutive day courses taken at a rate of one a month or so. This format makes the programme attractive to those who wish to study part time while retaining full-time jobs.

Full-time students are also welcomed and will be expected to devote a significant part of their non-taught hours to project work as well as private study. Much support is given to students, part time and full time, with their preparation for the modules and in their project work.

The programme has strong links with industry and commerce and involves many visiting lecturers who hold senior positions in their fields.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have financial, management or technological backgrounds. They must also be able to show potential to reach a senior position in the energy industry.

For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:

  • IELTS: 6.5
  • TOEFL (internet based): 100

Foundation and Pre Masters courses at KIC London offer comprehensive support to students including regular one-to-one tuition. Fees

Full-time EU: £12,000 (2013/14 fees); Part-time EU: £6,000 (per year) (2013/14 fees). Full-time Non EU: £15,000 (2013/14 fees); Part-time Non EU: £7,500 (per year) (2013/14 fees)

The course provides economic and market-based skills relevant to carbon trading and technical and engineering skills related to energy generation and management. With strong industry links, it provides students from economic, management and engineering backgrounds with a firm basis for career development.

Module Details

It addresses the implementation of energy management systems and technologies including renewables. Issues involved in the energy supply side are covered as well as environmental aspects arising from the use of fuels for industrial and transport purposes.

Professional accreditation:
The course is accredited by the Energy Institute and fulfils the learning requirement for Chartered Engineer status.

Course content:
The course is organised into modules which are taught over a three day period, at a rate of one module a month.

  • Renewable Energy and Sustainability
  • Energy Conversion Technology

Completion of eight modules and examinations will lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma.
