Course Description

The Professional Practice in Maritime Operations is a flexible postgraduate course, especially designed for seafarers and shore based maritime professionals who are looking to use their existing industry (such as the Class 1 Certificate of Competence) towards a Masters degree.

This maritime course enables you to integrate your current experience and into a programme of study that is carried out alongside your normal work. Our adaptable approach allows you to tailor its contents around the needs of your present working role. You can study remotely while developing your career in the maritime industry, whether that be in a seafaring or a shore based role. Those who will benefit most highly are seafarers seeking a qualification that will allow them to transfer into different industries.

As this is a blended learning course, your costs will be kept to a minimum. Contact with your tutors can be arranged via the phone, email or through the internet. The Marine Society is responsible for all of the administration on your behalf making your work/study experience as seamless as possible and offering you more study time to reach your goal of a future maritime qualification.

Entry Requirements

Our entry requirements provide a guide to the that you’ll need to study our courses. We understand that problems with the system for exams and assessments might mean you have lower grades that you expected, so we’re taking a flexible approach to admissions. We’ll do our best to look at your application on an individual basis, consider lower grades than normal and mock results, and look at more than your when we’re making a decision.Applicants should normally have held a Class 1 Certificate of Competency for three years or hold an equivalent qualification in a related subject, and be working in the maritime sector.If you have been working in a management role within the maritime sector for five or more years but don’t hold a Class 1 Certificate of Competency it may be possible to join the programme by taking an additional Review of Learning module.EligibilityUK/EU and international students are eligible to apply for this course.Academic credit for previous study or experienceIf you have relevant or work experience, academic credit may be awarded towards your Middlesex University programme of study.
