Course Description

MSc Public Health and Health Promotion (PHHP) is a long-established course designed to meet the varied forms of public health practice. Your studies will integrate public health theory and practice, with a strong focus on health promotion, to provide significant contributions to the public health service throughout Wales, the UK and internationally.

Studying alongside students from a range of industries and professions, you will develop an understanding of the multidimensional nature of public health, considering both the traditional medical perspective and wider socio-economic determinants of health.

Course content is informed by regional, national and global policy, providing relevant learning outcomes for both home and international students, and all teaching is underpinned by the evidence base for public health practice to build a course where students develop the skills and knowledge required to work within a national and global health arena.

The course is mapped to the United Kingdom Public Health Register (UKPHR) practitioner Competencies, New Standards December 2018 and can form part of the portfolio application process for practitioner/specialist registration with the UKPHR.

Entry Requirements

To apply for this course you will need:

  • a relevant degree at 2.1 or above
  • an equivalent recognised qualification and/ or two years of relevant employment with evidence of educational/professional achievement.
  • international students will need a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in all domains, or a University approved equivalent, prior to starting the programme.
