This accredited Biomedical Science postgraduate degree will provide you with a biological understanding of human disease processes, the treatment principles of such diseases, and the underlying biological disciplines that enable their study and explanation.

You will benefit from our extensive links with BioCity Nottingham, the city’s groundbreaking healthcare and biosciences centre. One of the largest innovation and incubation centres of its kind in Europe.

You will study core modules with options to study a specialism from one of four: Cellular Pathology, Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Transfusion Science, and Medical Microbiology. Not only will you be able to demonstrate your understanding of the biological basis of disease, its investigation and treatment, you will also demonstrate expertise in highly specialised and advanced research.

You will work with our highly regarded academics, who are active in a broad range of research areas, achieving 100% world-leading or internationally-excellent research impact. (REF 2014).

MSc 1 year full-time / 2 years part-time / 2 years full-time with one year with placement

  • Research Methods and Bioethics (20 cp)
  • Research Project (60 cp)
Optional modules

You can choose either both Pharmacology and Biology of disease for 40 cp or, Pharmacology or Biology of Disease for 20 cp:
  • Pharmacology (20 cp)
  • Biology of Disease (20 cp)
Your remaining 40 or 60 cp can be made up with the following modules:
  • Microbial Diagnostics (20 cp)
  • Molecular Biology (20 cp)
  • Cellular Pathology (20 cp)
  • Haematology and Transfusion Science (20 cp)
  • Medical Microbiology (20 cp)

You might be able to get a scholarship to help fund your studies. We award scholarships to those students who can demonstrate excellent achievement, passion and dedication to their studies.

Student Destinations

What are we looking for?

  • a UK honours degree (minimum 2.2) or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as biology, biomedical science, pharmacology or microbiology.
  • Applicants with relevant employment experience or other relevant qualifications will also be considered.
