MA PG Dip Landscape Architecture

Course Description

Our design-based course is highly regarded by landscape professionals – you will explore techniques which will help you to become a creative, reflective designer who can overcome environmental challenges and issues relevant to landscape architecture, such as climate change, food production, and health and wellbeing.

You will undertake a comprehensive landscape architecture project and join specialist design studios in ecological, community and urban design as well as studying contemporary landscape theory. At the end of the course you have the option to join an advanced landscape architecture studio which when complete provides you with a fully accredited MA and eligibility for graduate membership of the UK Landscape Institute.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture to access the top up course. Alternatively applicants to the full MA course should have at least a second class honours degree supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional; all applicants should satisfy our University English language requirements.
English Language Requirement: IELTS 6.5 with no skills below 6.0, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.

The final part of the three module set examines design development and resolution at an advanced level, including aspects of landscape environment engineering, technical resolution of planting and constructional elements, and landscape management.

For the second part of the module set you will explore and apply contemporary approaches and strategies to development and resolution of creative and responsive design solutions at a range of scales, as appropriate to the project, strategies, frameworks, master plans and site designs.

The module aims to broaden your knowledge and skills through the negotiation of appropriate study in cognate areas that are consistent with individual needs and course requirements through the negotiation of appropriate study in cognate area/s or as defined in a Learning Agreement, you will demonstrate knowledge and skill acquisition appropriate to individual need and professional development.Negotiated Study 2 (20 Credits)

This module prepares you for professional practice in landscape architecture. Through a programme of lectures, seminars and workshops it introduces the scope, methods and responsibilities of professional research practice, ethics and conduct; the management and legal framework within which landscape is practised, including contract law, tendering procedures; legislation and common law relevant to landscape development and environmental statement.

This module forms the first part of the three module set of the major design project in Landscape Architecture. It challenges you to explore and apply key research and analysis techniques, theories and strategies to an agreed student initiated, complex landscape design project. Research Methods: Theory & Practice (20 Credits) Final Project (40 Credits)
