Course Description

The programme is designed to satisfy the requirements of the RIBA and the ARB for validation and prescription at Part II level, and to fulfil the criteria of the EC architect’s directive; the programme design also allows students the opportunity to develop areas of specialism. The programme is validated by the RIBA and prescribed by the ARB. The course develops the knowledge, understanding and skills of the architectural undergraduate, acknowledges the skills and abilities learned during the period of practical training, supports the self-motivation of the student, and assumes adesire to develop specialised areas of expertise.

Entry Requirements

Academic qualifications

Applicants must normally have a good first degree in an ARB prescribed part I programme in architecture. Candidates with a good degree or equivalent in architecture or a related subject, which does not have ARB prescription, must obtain exemption from part I by external examination at the ARB. Candidates will normally be interviewed and asked to submit a portfolio of their degree work. Those with a good honours degree in Architecture from Northumbria University who have taken part in the “year-out” programme will not normally be asked to interview.
Practical experience
Applicants should have at least six months practical experience in an architectural practice or related business, and have completed their RIBA PEDR. Candidates for the part-time route may be considered for entry in the academic year immediately after graduating from their first degree.
