Course Description

The Master of Medical Education course is aimed at those staff training, supervising or leading larger groups of undergraduate or postgraduate doctors. It is also suitable for those individuals who are aspiring to a higher role in medical education at any level, or those wishing to commit to a substantial research project in medical education.

Explore the fundamentals of teaching and learning, and critically examine the range of assessments used in medicine, including work-based assessment of competence, the assessment of professionalism and the assessment of knowledge. Examine the new practices available through technology enhanced learning.

Consider in more detail the intricacies and complexities of medical training in a strict regulatory framework, how we can best manage quality and support both our learners and teachers through this. Cover student success, retention, attainment and exploring issues such as fitness to practise. Examine a range of educational research methods.

Entry Requirements

You are expected to be a regular teacher or supervisor of medical students or doctors in current UK practice. Applicants will hold a medical degree (MB BS, MBChB) or a first degree of 2:2 or above.
