Course Description

Build your knowledge of nutrition, physiology and biochemistry, behaviour change techniques, food science, public health policy and practice.

  • Gain in-depth knowledge and detailed understanding of the principles and practice of human nutrition.
  • Develop an appropriate level of competence in public health management including financial, organisational and applied management relevant to employment in the nutrition and the public health sector.
  • Enhance your ability to critically analyse current and developing theory.

Nutritionists within the public health sector play an important role in promoting good health and preventing diet-related disease in the population. This course equips recent graduates and health professionals with the knowledge and skills to specialise in public health nutrition.

Entry Requirements

All students

Typically, you should have one of the following

• an honours degree or equivalent in food, wellbeing, health or biological science

• substantial relevant experience at a senior level – with evidence from referees, performance on training courses or further education qualifications, showing you are capable of gaining a postgraduate qualification

Overseas applicants from countries whose first language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English. An IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English. If your English language skill is currently below an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English level.
