The studies programme goal and objectives were formulated on the basis of European conservatoires, music academies and high schools of music (AEC), the raised requirements of the distinguished professional music performers of the Association of Bologna working group and the following documents: LR Legislation of Science and Studies, The Description of generic requirements for the Master’s Degree Programme, and the Statute of the VMU.

The main goals of the second-level studies of the Performing Art programme – to deepen and broaden the professional musicians competencies acquired in the first level, to provide additional analytical skills, scientific, creative and practical skills, and to form the competencies allowing students to continue their studies in the third level.

The study programme’s objectives, intended for the purpose of:
1. In public concerts (performances) to perform the complex solo repertoire of study instrument (or voice) much more professionally than after graduating the Bachelor studies.
2. In public concerts (performances) to perform the complex repertoire of study instrument (or voice) in various composition ensembles, orchestras (or opera) much more professionally than after graduating the Bachelor studies.
3. To deepen the theoretical and practical skills of interpretation of an independent rehearsal, a repertoire selection, an artistic expression of performed music, and to be able to apply them to new, unknown or constantly changing environments and broad (interdisciplinary, inter-range) contexts related to their programme of study.
4. To broaden the competencies acquired during the first level of studies by the scientific-analytical and creative (musicology, creation) theory and practice, to know how to apply the limits of the analytical methods of analysis (creativity techniques), to be able to assess the research results and to determine their reliability.
5. To acquire additional concert practice and self-career planning skills allowing for adjustment to the constantly changing job market.
6. To have the discipline to self-study, to learn and critically evaluate the innovations of theoretical and practical fields of creation, to effectively operate in circumstances where there is a lack of detailed information and instructions, to reason the arrived at conclusions and to offer them properly to all concerned regardless of education, to realize the ethical and social basics of one’s knowledge and understand the consequences of decision-making and the responsibility therein.
7. The programme aims and objectives will correspond to AEC, LR requirements of legislation, to the attitude of VMU to strengthen the experience of an interdisciplinary studies organization, to create and develop a variety of professional and community work-based training programmes to promote the international mobility of students, to increase the desire for some professional courses to be studied in a foreign language (by listening to visiting teachers’ lectures and master classes led by the professionals), to develop the graduates ability for self and creative thinking, susceptibility to the innovations of active members of a civil society, and their seeking to learn and grow throughout their own lives.
 

Entry Requirements

The prospective students are expected to have a Bachelor Degree in Music or necessary technical and management tool of artistic expression skills, adequate for the requirements of Bachelor studies graduation.

After graduation of the course a Master’s of Music Degree is obtained. The knowledge, competencies and artistic experience acquired in the Performing Art Master’s study programme, provides an opportunity for students to work professionally in the institutions of culture and education, in art groups, to develop their own creative and musical activities, and to continue their studies in the third level.
