Course Description

The course is for Diagnostic Radiographers and Dietitians who have a minimum of three years’ experience in their area of intended prescribing and who are registered with the HCPC. Evidence of an identified need for their prescribing role is required together with employer support for their role and the period of supervised practice. All students require an appropriately qualified medical Doctor willing to support and assess you in supervised practice. Current Disclosure and Barring Services clearance is also necessary.

Course content

The supplementary prescribing programme provides opportunities to develop and demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills in prescribing practice through reasoned thought, systematic enquiry, reflection and evaluation.

Topics include

  • Systematic approaches to assessment and diagnosis
  • Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
  • Factors that influence prescribing practice and patients use of medication
  • Evidence based sources of information legal, professional and ethical issues associated with the role.

Entry Requirements

You will need a degree within a relevant area and have at least three years experience in practice, with at least one year’s full-time relevant experience immediately prior to your application in the area of your intended prescribing practice.

You also need a medical Doctor who is willing to support and assess you in supervised practice. Current Disclosure and Barring Service clearance by your employer is also necessary.
