This non-modular programme is in 2 parts, core Science and an additional course in a science specialism; it is designed to equip students to teach all 3 sciences up to at least the end of Key Stage 3 (year 9) and a physics specialism subject to post-16 level; emphasis on practical teaching provides students with a broad range of teaching experience in different schools; successful completion leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests and 60 credits at Master’s level; the course includes an extensive 24 weeks of placement in 2 schools; at university sessions students discuss experiences with others on the course and learn more about the theory and practice of teaching.
Appropriate 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent; GCSE grade C or equivalent in English language, mathematics and science subject; A-levels relevant to the National Curriculum are preferred; applicants should gain recent experience, in school, with children of the age range that they wish to teach.
