PGCE Secondary Education (Religious Education)

Course Description

This course is offered on a non-modular basis; debates about the teaching and content of religious education are fully explored in course components; students consider the issues raised by the local nature of the religious education curriculum and the variety of agreed syllabuses for religious education, as well as the examination courses in GCSE, A and AS-level, religous education and religious studies; this is all within the context of both relevant legislation and current national developments; students have the chance to consider different teaching methodologies, including active-learning and experiential approaches; they also have access to a wide range of teaching resources including videos, artefacts, information technology, visiting speakers and field trips.

Entry Requirements

Appropriate 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent; GCSE grade C or equivalent in English language, mathematics and science subject; A-levels relevant to the National Curriculum are preferred; applicants should gain recent experience, in school, with children of the age range that they wish to teach.
