Course Description

The master programme in Sports Technology at Aalborg University, Denmark, focuses on development of technological equipment and the interplay between equipment and human performance. In the projects, you may work with development and testing of advanced sports and health related products as for instance sports equipment, shoes, rackets, flooring and apparel.

The master programme includes a scientific communication course and it is possible to organize a semester abroad at 3rd semester, before the final thesis. 

Entry Requirements

In order to apply, you must have a bachelor degree in Sports Science. However, if you hold a related bachelor degree (e.g. Physiotherapist) you have the possibility to qualify if supplementary courses within relevant scientific areas have been attained and a specific academic assessment has been made.

Please make sure you send your application form and further documentation via post to the International Office by the required deadline.

All international applicants (Scandinavian students exempted) must document basic written and spoken English by taking one of the following language tests.

As master of science in sports technology, you hold a unique competence profile with very good job opportunities within development of sports, training and rehabilitation equipment or as a technical consultant.

You will be able to perform highly qualified functions in various sports organizations and companies. Moreover, the programme provides prerequisites for research (Ph.D. programme).

Module Details

Sports Technology is a two year master programme – 120 ECTS.

The programme is implemented as Problem-based Learning with group projects.

1st Semester
•Instrumentation and physical performance – is project work on how to choose and apply recent technologies used in sports.
•Modelling of human function – makes you able to analyse and evaluate simultation results.
•Measurement technique and signal processing – gives you profound knowledge about the measurement technologies and makes you able to process and evaluate the recorded data.
•Applied technology in sports – gives you an up-to-date knowledge about technological developments within the field of sport, handicap sports, entertainment and adventure

2nd Semester
•Interplay between athlete and equipment – a project with focus on products and equipment.
•Manufacturing processes, makes you able to improve products, e.g. throug improved design processes.
•Numerical modelling – focus is on numerical modeling using the Finite Element Method (FEM), which is a widely used computer-based engineering tool for design of mechanical components.
•Mechanics of materials – makes you able to assess and calculate stress in beams and rods and to address design problems.

3rd Semester
•Project work in groups
•Scientific methods and communication – presentation technique and scientific methods used in the project work

4th Semester
•Master thesis – in groups or individually
