Course Description

Strategic project management has the potential to add significant value to an organisation. If you have been working on projects, or if you are a graduate of BSc (Hons) Project Management and wish to take your studies to the next level, this course can help you move forward.

We offer a research-led course that focuses on the latest issues in strategic and project management – these include problem solving, managing others, research, project strategies, performance monitoring and innovation. You will be encouraged to apply your own workplace dilemmas as research topics.

Our course is accredited by the Association for Project Management and our close links with the APM, and other project-related organisations will feed into your teaching.

You will have the opportunity to publish papers in local and international conferences hosted by masters students. We will also give you the chance to join annual visits to Weurzburg and Toulouse to interact with fellow MSc students and project focussed companies in Europe.

Entry Requirements

Requirements:Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in Project Management, at least a second class honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. 

IELTS:

IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.

Module Details

 Innovation & Entrepreneurship (20 Credits)

Project management might be said to be problem solving. Innovation then becomes the problem solving tool of the project manager. Seen as a key value adding tool, this topic is examined in detail. Parallels are drawn between the entrepreneur and the Project Manager’s role.

Managing several projects in a coordinated way to successfully implement a strategy is typically referred to as ‘Programme Management’. Many project managers will have more than one project to deliver. Understanding the advantageous of coordination, performance monitoring and benefits management will enhance all your projects and equip you to oversee and enhance the delivery of a group of them.

To understand, translate, and evaluate the strategic environment and understand its impact on project and programme delivery.

You will examine and analyse the strategy process and the nature of strategy. You will also consider the application and failure of strategy in organisations, and the role of programme and project management in this. Research Methods (20 Credits) Dissertation (40 Credits)

An opportunity to engage in research or advanced scholarship in a subject area that is appropriate to the course and is of particular interest to you.

An opportunity to look at the latest issues in the development and delivery of projects, while also building your ability to predict what may occur in the future.

Understand the theory and science of human behaviour to enable you to better facilitate optimum and rational decision making in strategy and projects.
