The MEd Tesol at the University of Exeter is aimed at qualified teachers and others who work in TESOL at either primary, secondary or tertiary levels in different educational contexts around the world.

Whether you are a qualified teacher or new to the profession, we offer a route within our flexible MEd TESOL which is tailored to your needs. Built on 20 years’ experience of English language teaching, our Masters programme offers two routes; one for teaching practitioners seeking to develop their professional skills and the other for those wanting to enter a career in language teaching.

Study Details:

MEd: 1 year FT PgDip: 10 months FT (possibly earlier, dependent on previous teaching experience) PgCert: 7 months FT

Module Details:

Students with LESS than one year of teaching experience must take:
EFPM280    Developing Practical Knowledge for TESOL Teaching

Students with MORE than one year of teaching experience will normally take:
EFPM266    Principles of Language Learning    30

The following modules are compulsory for all students:
EFPM267    Language Awareness for TESOL    30
EFPM329    Preparing for TESOL Inquiry and Dissertation     60

Our MEd also offers excellent preparation for progression to PhD or professional doctorate (EdD).

Entry Requirements

For admission to the programme, we would normally expect a first degree in language or in education equivalent to a UK Second Class Honours.
