Course Description

Entry Requirements

You will have a first degree in a relevant subject (such as Modern Foreign Languages, Humanities, Literature, Linguistics, Education). You will have an interest in becoming, or developing as, an ESOL teacher.

For those who need to demonstrate proficiency in English – IELTS 6.5 or equivalent

Accreditation of prior certificated learning (APCL)*

The total number of credits on the MSC TESOL is 180.

If you hold a TESOL diploma qualification (at UK NQF Level 7) –  either the Cambridge DELTA or Trinity College London Dip TESOL – you could have this accredited, off-setting one (30 credits) or two (60 credits) of the MSc modules, normally replacing English Language Learning & Teaching, Analysing Language for TESOL or the Internship modules.

You can be accredited with 30 credits by presenting the Diploma (original or validated copy) with your application.  You can be accredited with 60 credits by successfully completing a bridging paper of 3-4,000 words illustrating how the learning on the diploma and in professional practice has constituted coverage of the learning outcomes of the relevant modules. The bridging paper will be assessed (on a pass/fail basis) by two members of the MSc Programme team.
