Study Details

MSc/PGDip/PGCert 1 year full-time, 2-5 years part-time

This programme is designed to provide comprehensive training in analytical chemistry and its implementation in a variety of fields including biomedical, pharmaceutical, food and environmental analysis.

Programme information

The programme comprises a broad range of modules covering all the major analytical techniques, complemented by studies in transferable and professional skills, with the option to study aspects of medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry if desired.

Study areas include research methods, separation techniques, mass spectrometry and associated techniques, spectroscopy and structural analysis, sensors, pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism, drug targets, drug design and drug synthesis and innovations in analytical science.

The practical sessions give students experience in nanopore technologies, separation science and the latest techniques in mass spectrometry.

Students also have exciting opportunities to carry out projects on placement in industries such as 3M, Astra Zeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb and others.
