Professional Translation for European Languages MA

Study Details

MA: 12 months full-time, 24 months part-time

This course gives you the skills and knowledge to become a professional translator. You’ll work between English and one/two of the following languages: French, German, Italian or Spanish.

You'll receive expert training in professional tools and software and work in different contexts, such as:

  • business
  • legal
  • technical
  • literary translation

Our course is accredited by the European Master’s in Translation (EMT) network, ensuring you a top-quality professional qualification. We're also a member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting.

Compulsory modules

    SML7000 Information Technology for Translators and Interpreters*
    SML8009 Research Methods in Translating and Interpreting
    SML8012 Translation Practice and Principles
    SML8013 Translation Workshop
    SML8023 Profession, Processes and Society in Translating and Interpreting

You take either one of the following modules: 

    SML8016 Translation Project OR
    SML8098 Dissertation

Entry Requirements

Normally a 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent.
