Study Details

MSc one year full-time/two years with a work placement

Our MSc Economics course has been designed to give you an in-depth understanding of economic concepts, principles and techniques by focusing on the application of economics to contemporary real-world issues. You will be encouraged to ‘think like an economist’ through the application of economic ideas and methods drawn from a range of alternative perspectives. The choice of our MSc Economics course or MSc Economics and Investment banking course opens up a wide range of career paths.

By focusing on the application of economics, the course is designed to have broad appeal and is aimed at students who have previously studied business, finance, economics, social sciences or a quantitatively-based subject. For students who have previously studied undergraduate economics the course provides not only an opportunity to develop subject knowledge further but also a proficiency in undertaking applied economic analysis together with an understanding of different economic perspectives and traditions.  For those who have studied a related undergraduate degree, the course provides an exciting opportunity to study economic analysis delivered in an accessible way. It will enable you to develop highly sought-after analytical and problem-solving skills associated with economics.

Entry Requirements

You will need an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK undergraduate honours degree (2.2 or above).
All applicants will be required to demonstrate a commitment to the subject they wish to study and should demonstrate how their chosen programme of study will benefit them in their future career.
One academic or vocational reference is required.

Programme Funding

We are able to offer a number of competitive scholarships to both home / EU and international students through our Full-time Master's Scholarship Scheme. Our scholarships can cover up to half your tuition fees, and apply to all our full-time Masters course starting in September and January.
Please note that these scholarships are only available to students who have been offered a place to study on their chosen master's course within the School.

Programme Assessment

A range of assessment methods are used across the course, the choice of which reflects the needs and demands of the different types of module. Some modules will assess the ability to work collaboratively in a team and others will assess individual capability. Types of assessment will range from examinations to group presentations including essays, reports, financial analyses, literature reviews and research based projects. The interactive nature of the taught sessions offers opportunities to gain feedback on your performance before being formally assessed and increasing use is made of eLearning to further support the feedback process.
