Masters of Laws: Maritime Law LLM

Study Details

LLM: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time

The LLM in Maritime Law is designed specifically for students who wish to study shipping and international trade law in detail.

The modules are particularly suited to students who intend to pursue careers in chartering, trade and marine insurance (including Protection and Indemnity Clubs).

English law is widely adopted in other jurisdictions, so a study of English law is particularly important.

Students wishing to specialise in an area of law by following one of our dedicated pathways will also benefit from having that pathway named on your degree certificate, highlighting the specialist knowledge and experience you have in this field.

Module details

Modules in this specialism are regularly updated to remain topical and may include:

  • LAWM640 Dissertation 60
  • LAWM067 Carriage of Goods by Sea 30
  • LAWM072 International Trade 30
  • LAWM079 Marine Insurance 30
  • LAWM174 Oil and Gas 30

Entry Requirements

A good second class honours degree in Law (or a degree with a substantial legal component) is normally required. If you hold a good lower second honours degree or equivalent and practical and/or other relevant experience you may also be admitted in appropriate circumstances.

Applicants without a Law degree.
We welcome applications from students with other qualifications or degrees in an area appropriate to the LLM programme. These may include Social Sciences, Humanities, Accountancy or Business Studies. Please note this list is not exhaustive and every application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Programme Funding

We offer numerous scholarships to encourage exceptional students to apply for Masters programmes at the University of Exeter.
