Study Details

MPhil 2 years Full-time, MPhil 4 years Part-time, PhD 3 years Full-time, PhD 6 years Part-time

Research degrees, based on the writing of a thesis, can be undertaken in three ways: MA by research (one year); MPhil (two years); PhD (three years). Research seminars are run within the Department and at the Centres for Medieval Studies and Eighteenth Century Studies, and in the Department of Biology. Numerous special interest research groups also hold meetings and conferences at King's Manor, and this allows research students to keep in touch with latest developments in their field.

The graduate study buildin, provides room for reading and quiet reflection. It is dedicated solely to providing facilities for postgraduate research. The building has been designed to provide an attractive yet effective atmosphere for study and writing; it also creates an environment which brings together postgraduate researchers in a friendly and communal way

Entry Requirements

For research programmes, you must submit your research proposal with your application. We often recommend that you seek advice from your potential supervisor (i.e. the member of staff who shares your research interests). Applicants require a UK 2:1 or international equivalent in a relevant subject.
If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you're applying to.
