Study Details

MPhil 2 years Full-time, PhD 3 years Full-time

The programme is intended for students who wish to acquire graduate-level skills in economic analysis and relevant quantitative techniques. It is designed for students who are embarked on, or intending to embark upon, careers in research agencies, consultancy firms, economic advisory services of governments, banks or international agencies, or as university teachers or researchers. The programme provides a sound training in best practice methods of mainstream economics, combined with the opportunities of studying optional areas in depth, and of gradual transition to research.

Entry Requirements

Students wishing to apply for an MPhil or PhD research degree must write a research proposal. PhD applicants are usually required to hold a Bachelor degree in economics with a 2.1 or 1st class Honours (or overseas equivalent) and an MSc in economics or in a closely related discipline with a high average mark. MSc programmes providing little or no background in economics and econometrics or without formal examinations at post-graduate level in economics and econometrics do not meet the entry requirement.
If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you're applying to.
