Study Details

PhD 3 years Full-time, PhD 6 years Part-time

This doctoral programme involves interdisciplinary research that cuts across these two disciplines. Students will be jointly supervised by a member of the Department of Environment and the Department of Politics. Both Departments have strong research cultures: Environment has a graduate research school of around 40 students and Politics has around 50 research students.

Entry Requirements

Admission to the PhD programme is normally based on good performance at the BA level (usually a 2.1 or a 1st) and a Masters degree, at least one of these in a social science related subject. In unusual cases where the student has a 1st in a social science subject in their BA, admission to the programme may be allowed on that basis. In exceptional cases the department may consider students from non-social science backgrounds, where the student can clearly demonstrate equivalent experience and knowledge and this is supported by academic references.
If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you're applying to.
