Research activity within the department covers a wide range of topics in both pure and applied mathematics and many publications originate from this research for research degrees (PhD, PhD (with foundation phase), MPhil or MSc by Research).

We work over a wide range of specialised interests in the areas of pure mathematics (including algebra, geometry, analysis, number theory, stochastic analysis and probability), applied mathematics (including continuum mechanics, mathematical physics, mathematical biology, mathematical chemistry, continuum mechanics and stochastic analysis and mathematical finance), and statistics (including Bayesian Statistics, Big Data Analysis, Biostatistics, Medical Statistics and Health Economics, Financial Statistics and Econometrics, and Nonparametric Statistics).

Entry Requirements

Applicants for admission to graduate research degrees in mathematics should have or expect to have a good Honours degree (equivalent of 2.1 or higher) in mathematics, or a good honours degree in which mathematics has formed a substantial part of the course.
If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you're applying to.
