Our expertise spans the discipline – from early modern political thought to contemporary international security, from post-conflict development to global financial governance, from the politics of gender to the politics of the environment.

The PhD/MPhil programme allows students to explore an area of academic interest in substantial detail. Throughout this time your supervisor(s) will guide you through the process of clarifying and completing your doctoral thesis. In addition, during the first year a range of subject-specific research training modules are available to support you through the exploratory phase. Research in the department takes place within four clusters: Political Philosophy; Comparative Politics and Public Policy; Political Economy; Conflict Security and Development.

Entry Requirements

Good first degree in relevant subject, or directly relevant experience, preferably some experience of graduate work in the social sciences or the humanities.
