Study Details

MSc 1 year Full-time

This course is taught by the Department of Sociology and the Department of Computer Science, provides an understanding of social media and interactive technologies based upon the key role of social media in society, an understanding of the interaction between people and IT and the needs of the user and the ability to develop new interactive communications technologies in response to these needs. It provides an innovative mix of social and technical skills. You will gain an understanding of the social, political and economic factors that affect the use of interactive technologies, examining how technology is perceived and employed by the user and develop the skills to design and create usable and accessible devices.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have the minimum of a 2:1 dgree or equivalent suitable experience. This should be within a social science, businesss and management studies or a computer science related discipline with a particular emphasis on either social informatics, information management, or social aspects of computing.

However, it is also recognised that this course is likely to attract highly capable students from other backgrounds who wish to undertke rigourous social science training. In this case, high calibre applicants from non-social science disciplines will be considered for admission.
