Study Details

MPhil 2 years Full-time, MPhil 4 years Part-time, PhD 3 years Full-time, PhD 6 years Part-time

Research in the department is organised into four main areas of Education and Social Justice, Language Learning, Science Education and Psychology in Education and we particularly welcome research proposals in these areas. The degrees of MPhil and PhD provide an opportunity to conduct a substantial in-depth study of a topic of interest to the applicant. PhD students are offered a variety of research training opportunities, in order to equip them with both research skills and transferable skills. These skills are increasingly important, both in academia and for employability, such as Research Methods training; Educational Research Group; Advanced Research Methods Skills (ARMS); Research Troubleshooting Workshop; Researcher development training programme.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a good honours degree or a master's degree (MA, MSc or MEd) in a relevant discipline although candidates with other evidence of ability to succeed at PhD level will also be considered.
If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you're applying to.
