CCE / PGCert Critical Care

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    CCE / PGCert 12 months

Course Description

This programme has been developed in conjunction with the West Yorkshire Critical Care Delivery Network (WYCCN) to meet the Guidelines for Provision of Critical Care Services (GPICS) recommendations regarding Critical Care Nurse education.

It is offered at Level 6 (degree level, giving you a Certificate in Continuing Education qualification) or Level 7 (master’s level, giving you a Postgraduate Certificate).

Students will develop their knowledge and skills within critical care by attending key lectures on topics such as:

  • pathophysiology
  • management of a critical care patient’s cardiovascular status
  • obstetric emergencies in critical care
  • ventilation strategies

Key lectures will be complemented by simulated practice using the University’s high-fidelity simulation suite, workshops, and team based-learning activities. The programme benefits from the attendance of students from around West Yorkshire, Harrogate and the Humber and so offers excellent opportunity for students to network with peers from other organisations.

The programme facilitates students to gain a post-registration qualification in critical care whilst being supported to achieve the Critical Care National Network for Nurse Leaders (CC3N) Step 2 and Step 3 competencies, or a suitable equivalent. There is also optional support available for students wanting to work towards completion of one of the CC3N Specialist competencies.

The programme requires students to attend the City Centre campus for 12 full days across one academic year.

Entry Requirements

A registered nurse/healthcare professional with relevant post-registration experience (e.g. in an ICU, HDU, A&E or CCOT setting)

Completion of CC3N Step 1 competencies or practicing to the equivalent standard

Have an identified mentor in practice. Full-time students who do not have a mentor in practice will be restricted to modules with an ‘international’ version.
