Course Description

Develop and enhance your advanced technical and problem-solving skills in the areas of control engineering, industrial automation and robotics, with additional work experience.

  • Gain the ability to apply principles of modelling, classical and modern control concepts and controller design packages.
  • Learn how to design and exploit automation and robotic systems in a range of manufacturing and industrial applications.
  • Work alongside research staff from the Power, Electrical and Control Engineering, and Electronic Engineering Subject Groups and the Centre for Automation and Robotics Research (CARR) at Sheffield Hallam.

On this course you cover a wide range of topics, including control systems, advanced control methods, industrial robotics, mobile robots, industrial automation, and artificial intelligence.

Entry Requirements

All students

Normally one from • an honours degree (2.2 or above) in a science or engineering subject, • suitable professional qualifications in an engineering field • a degree in any discipline containing aspects relevant to automation and control engineering , plus at least one year of appropriate industrial experience • a diploma in a technological area, with at least three years of relevant experience International students India • a first class BE in a relevant discipline, or a good second class BE with a strong performance in mechanical and manufacturing subjects China • a four year Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline, with an overall average of at least 80 per cent or equivalent Other countries • a good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject

Overseas applicants from countries whose first language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English. If your English language skill is currently below an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English level.
