Course Description

Tourism and hospitality continue to be expanding global industries with a high demand for managers to lead and develop international organisations. Our course gives you the expertise to perform at a strategic senior level in these dynamic service industries. 

By understanding the major influences affecting the international hospitality business environment you will explore issues currently shaping the management of international hospitality corporations. You will gain a comprehensive knowledge of international tourism and tourist destinations including the supply chain, customer demand and the global forces impacting on the sustainability of tourism.

With the range of management and marketing modules, research methods and your dissertation you will have the opportunity to complete your study in subjects relevant to your future career ambitions.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional; all applicants should satisfy our University English language requirements. 
IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.

Module Details

Explore the process and application of marketing management and strategy to the characteristics of the global tourism and hospitality industries. You will critique marketing concepts, tactics and strategy alternatives in order to understand the internal and external marketing environment.

Develop skills, knowledge and understanding of international tourism and tourists through the analysis of international tourism destinations and organisations, the tourism supply chain, tourism demand and global forces which might impact on the sustainability of tourism systems.

Study the history of the hospitality industry and the changes that have influenced its evolution. You will study the expansion from local to national markets and assess possibilities for the future.

Gain an in-depth understanding of the concepts and techniques of Strategic Management and how to apply this knowledge to the service sector.

Examine the research needs and major influences affecting the design and execution of a robust investigation related to your field of study.

Pursue a significant/extended individual research activity relating learning from your taught modules to the analysis of a particular issue related to the field study. The process will offer you the opportunity to advance research skills both academically and through practical application.

Gain an understanding of the definitions, concepts and theories that underpin human resource management. You will evaluate traditional and contemporary industry practices and explore the issues that make an impact on the management of human resources in the tourism and hospitality industries.
