PGCE Secondary Design and Technology

Masters Degree Description

This PGCE course develops your subject-specific knowledge and practical teaching skills in areas such as collaborative learning, design ideation and problem-solving activities. You explore the philosophies underpinning design and technology as well as building your understanding of professional issues; the design and technology curriculum; and current educational foci including decolonising the subject, disruptive technologies and sustainability. The course’s hands-on approach allows you to put your skills into practice in the classroom, with the guidance of an expert or lead mentor who is a subject specialist.

There is the option to take this course part-time over two years, making it easier to balance study with your other commitments.

2.2 honours degree or equivalent in a related subject areaGCSE grade 4 English (or a C)GCSE grade 4 Maths

Safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS, and Occupational Health check are required

Student Destinations

On graduating, you can apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), enabling you to work as a design and technology teacher in a secondary education setting. Many of our graduates go on to rewarding employment in local schools.

As well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), completing the course also offers you up to 60 Master's-level credits with opportunities for further study at MA/MSc, MPhil, PhD and EdD levels.
