Masters Degree Description

The University of Bolton's MSc Social Care, Health and Wellbeing taught at our London Academic Centre by our learning partners Regent College London, is designed to prepare future leaders for the health and social care sector. The social, cultural and political climate has an enormous impact on the lives of vulnerable people in our society, influencing the care they receive and the life chances they experience. This postgraduate course is designed to develop your awareness and understanding of these factors while cultivating your leadership, critical analysis and communication skills. We focus on supporting you to integrate these ideas with your knowledge of social care, health and wellbeing, helping you to achieve career success and champion the uniqueness of individuals, carers and their families.

This course aims to extend your already considerable professional skills and knowledge with specialist modules that deepen your understanding of areas such as equality and diversity, integration and collaboration in health and social care, and the importance of engaging with service users. Our expert team will help you gain critical reflection, analysis and evaluation skills that support your ability to determine the impact of professional interventions in social care and health services.

Entry Requirements

Normally, you’ll have at least a lower second class (2.2) honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
Appropriate work experience is desirable.
We'll also consider applications where appropriate work experience can be demonstrated in lieu of, or in addition to, the published academic qualifications in line with the University’s Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) procedures.
You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.

Student Destinations

The MSc programme is aimed at those who want to work, or are currently working in the management of social care, health and wellbeing. This programme highlights the need to progress high quality health and wellbeing services for all ages across the health and social care sector. This is in line with changing workforce needs to provide a clear pathway for postgraduate development in the health and social care economy.

The programme has a focus on leadership and policy development as this is essential knowledge for career progression in health and social care. The dissertation element of the course supports development of specialist knowledge.

Some of the employability skills you can develop by undertaking this programme include critical analysis of a range of qualitative and quantitative evidence, problem solving and independent research in a selected area of social care, health or wellbeing that interests you.
