MSc Advanced Practice

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

MSc Distance Learning 42 months max

Course Description

Developed in collaboration with expert clinical practitioners, this course is suitable for registered nurses, health and social care professionals working in or towards an advanced practice role. The course has been designed to comply with the Scottish Government requirements for advanced practitioners.

You will be supported to develop the skills to practice autonomously. You’ll be able to assess, diagnose, and manage undiagnosed, undifferentiated, and complex clinical presentations, in an evidence based, safe, effective and person-centred way. You will develop the knowledge and skills required for advanced practice by undertaking a range of modules based on the four areas of Advanced Practice:

Clinical Practice

Facilitation of Learning

Leadership and Evidence

Research and Development

You should be employed as an advanced practitioner or have a trainee advanced practitioner role in a relevant clinical environment with access to appropriate clinical support and supervision in order to gain the requisite knowledge and skills required for an advanced practitioner. We will ask you to demonstrate this support when you apply by providing a signed mentor and manager form.

Entry Requirements

Healthcare professionals from a range of disciplines will be eligible to undertake the programme. Some of the modules in the programme require students to be working in a clinical area where they can develop their skills and knowledge to complete the required competencies.
You’ll normally need to have a degree or equivalent and work in a health or social care related area. We operate a flexible Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) system by which students who do not have a degree may be eligible for entry. We recognise that students applying for this course may have acquired significant learning from previous educational and life/work experience. We can offer potential students the opportunity of having such learning assessed for credit. This credit would go towards your application for this course.
