Course Description

The MLitt. Archaeological Studies offers you the opportunity to critically engage with the most current archaeological practice, theory and method. The world class archaeological resource afforded by the Highlands and Islands is central to the course, allowing you to develop specialisms grounded in the archaeology and heritage of the region as well as gain essential transferable skills. You will benefit from the internationally rated research programmes undertaken by staff which provide high quality case studies and scenarios drawn from the archaeology of the region. With a range of module options you will have the opportunity to study specific periods in more depth and to hone your research skills. You can choose and combine taught modules and dissertation research in thematic, chronological, and regional specialisations according to your interests.

Entry Requirements

2:2 Honours degree or above (or international equivalent) in archaeology or a relevant subject, or equivalent academic or professional qualifications. International students whose first language is not English must meet language competency standards as noted on the International page of our website. Candidates without formal qualifications who possess substantial experience in archaeology or a related field, and/or who may be judged to have demonstrated exceptional abilities, may also be admitted to the postgraduate programme.

The university is pleased to offer a limited numbers of places with full tuition fee support for Scottish/EU students, studying full time, on this course starting in September 2018 to help talented students join this key growth sector for the Scottish economy. Fees will be funded by the European Social Fund and Scottish Funding Council as part of Developing Scotland’s Workforce in the Scotland 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Fund Programmes.
