MA PG Dip PG Cert Clinical Counselling

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    3 years part-time

Course Description

The Graduate/Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling (on which the MA is based) had its first intake in 1991. The course was granted British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accreditation in 1998. The MA was accredited by the BACP in 2009.

Why study Clinical Counselling at Chester?

The Graduate/Postgraduate Diploma has been replaced and revalidated to degree level provision to meet new challenges in counsellor education. The MA in Clinical Counselling offers professional training in counselling to participants to enable them to work as counsellors on graduation.

The programme has an integrated approach with the aim of fostering academic, professional and personal development. It follows a modular structure delivered over three years. An essential component of the training is the work with clients in a placement supported by individual and group supervision. Personal therapy, away days and residential weekends are also a feature of the programme.

Entry Requirements

Acceptance on the programme is subject attendance of a personal interview and group workshop. As part of the interview, you will be asked to complete a Candidate Selection Form. This information will be used as the basis for your one to one interview to inform selection for the programme.  This is provided in advance so that you have time to prepare your answers, but does not need to be completed beforehand.

Prior to the start of the course, applicants will be expected to have:

  • Successfully completed a minimum intermediate counselling qualification at Level 2 with attendance. You will be expected to obtain a reference from the tutor of this course.
  • Obtained a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree, professional qualification or equivalent.
  • Applicants must apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and Occupational Health check, and register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority.
