Course Description

This programme will develop your knowledge of healthcare technology to improve outcomes.
This programme explores the use of health technologies to improve healthcare experiences and outcomes and the sustainability of health technology adoption to effect service transformation. This is achieved through focussing specifically on the following:

The need to consider implementation issues to successfully effect service transformation.

The importance of a user-centred approach in which user considerations are placed at the centre of technological shifts to avoid healthcare exclusion.

Innovation and entrepreneurship in health technology development and application.

The programme themes of transformation, user-centred approach, and innovation run through modules making up this programme of study.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirement for this course is a Bachelor (Honours) Degree at a 2:2 or above in a subject related to nursing, midwifery, or allied health professions with eligibility for, or a live professional professional registration with, the NMC or HCPC equivalent. 

We may also consider lesser qualifications if you have sufficient relevant work experience within the industry.

This course has academic entry requirements which are assessed alongside relevant work experience. Full details of any relevant work experience, including references should be submitted with your application and may be considered for entry where the minimum academic entry requirements are below those required.

Module Details

In this programme you will: 

  • Address the use of healthcare technologies as a key challenge in society, appreciating policy and practice contexts.
  • Consider barriers and facilitators to healthcare technology utilization to improve healthcare experiences and outcomes. 
  • Comprehend the importance of innovation and leadership in healthcare technology development and implementation to successfully effect change. 
  • Develop appropriate communication approaches to influence engagement. 

Core knowledge and understanding is acquired through lectures, tutorials, group work and guided independent learning and assessed through coursework.

How you’ll be taught
This is a part-time (3 year) distance learning programme. The programme is delivered fully online and is supported with Moodle the virtual learning platform.
The virtual learning environment is facilitated and moderated by academic experts in the field of study thus providing
opportunities for you to discuss, critique and synthesise evidence.

Assessments
Formative and summative assessments are used to evaluate your learning against the module learning outcomes. Formative feedback is
provided to guide you on how you are progressing and to give constructive guidance to inform development for your final summative assignment.
Summative assignments take the form of authentic assessments and include reports, literature reviews, presentations, and technology appraisal.
