Course Description

A one-year to 16-month full-time or two-year to 28-month part-time programme leading to the award of MSc in Creative Industries Management.

This course is designed to develop professional managers for the rapidly developing Creative Industries sector. You will study both management theory and practice and the context and operations of selected creative industry aspects.

Entry Requirements

A first degree in a complementary area, usually 2:2 or above, and/or suitable work experience, is required.

Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency to IELTS 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in each band or equivalent.

Student Destinations

The creative industries cover a wide range of activities, from aspects of film, TV or print media, including digital, to marketing and advertising roles, to research and design. You will therefore be provided with knowledge to undertake a managerial role wherever creative staff and operations require managing, including teams of personnel operating within these roles or sector. Examples of this could be in the fashion, film, web or publishing industries as a professional manager of projects or operations.

Programme Structure:

Strategic People Management (20 points)

Develop an understanding of how human resource strategies and operations can be designed and used to develop a high-performing workforce and ensure a productive and rewarding working environment.

Managing Innovation (20 points)

Understand the nature of creativity and how to design and manage the innovation processes and the people that lead to great products and services.

Creative Industries Study (40 points)

A practically oriented extended piece of work this allows you to develop an understanding of the context and operations of an aspect of the creative industries.

Strategic Financial Management (20 points)

Study the critical aspects of finance for an organisation including interpreting accounts, identifying flows of funds and how to develop budgets to support operations.

Management Research Methods (20 points)

Learn how a range of research skills can be developed to ensure that you can frame a problem, discover the current knowledge associated with it and develop methods for its systematic investigation.

Management Research Project (60 points)

Select a management or operational challenge for an area of the creative industries which particularly interests you and design a study to investigate and examine the issues for the area. Produce a report to address the issues making clear recommendations for resolution and further work.
