Course Description

This MA Creative Writing (specialist pathway) provides an intensive opportunity for you to focus on a single writing form: Fiction, Fiction for Young Readers or Poetry.

This programme is designed for ambitious, committed writers who are developing their independent writing practice. Taught by published, working writers including acclaimed poets, novelists, journalists and screenwriters, this programme provides you with the opportunity to focus on your passion, whether that’s Fiction, Poetry or Fiction for Young Readers.

Entry Requirements

A good second-class honours degree is normally required as well as a portfolio of writing, consisting of approximately 2000 words of prose (Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Journalism) or 15 pages of poetry. If a candidate demonstrates sufficient skill and professional experience in writing, the previous degree requirement may be waived. Please upload your portfolio of writing on the online application form, which can be found by clicking the ‘apply for the course’ button.

You are usually expected to hold a good second-class honours degree (or above) from an approved university or college in the UK, or a recognised degree from abroad. Advice on recognition may be obtained from the Admissions Manager. Non-graduates with appropriate professional or other qualifications may be accepted on an individual basis by course conveners. The level of English required is ACADEMIC IELTS at 6.5 overall with no less than 5.5 in any band.
