MA PG Dip PG Cert Dyslexia Research and Practice

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    3-6 years (part-time)

Course Description

In 2009, ‘Identifying and Teaching Children and Young People with Dyslexia and Literacy Difficulties’ was published and one recommendation was to build capacity within schools and improve access to specialist, high quality support for pupils with dyslexia.

The MA Dyslexia Research and Practice is an advanced degree programme which aims to address this recommendation by offering bespoke training to dyslexia practitioners. The course offers accreditation by the British Dyslexia Association.

As a result of participating, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of dyslexia and be able to make a real difference to children and colleagues in their schools and communities of practice.

Students will also strengthen their confidence to participate in debate around dyslexic issues and, should they wish to do so, add capacity for potential for their professional career development.

Professional Awards gained:

  • Approved Teacher Status of the British Dyslexia Association (ATS/BDA), which allows students to identify, informally assess and teach learners who are dyslexic and to become a ‘Specialist Teacher’ or a ‘Specialist Practitioner’.
  • Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA), which allows students to formally assess for dyslexia and recommend special access arrangements.
  • Approved Pratitioner Status of the British Dyslexia Association (APS/BDA).
  • Our course runs FE/HE routes at APS/ATS and AMBDA levels.

The MA in Dyslexia Research and Practice is offered in the following way:

Campus based – through week-end schools which happen twice a term at our Riverside Campus in Chester on Friday evening and Saturday.
