  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    MA 2 years full time

Course Description

Changing disciplines? Need to improve your level of English? Don’t otherwise meet the academic entry requirements for direct entry onto the MA English Language Teaching programme? Our two year MA English Language Teaching with Integrated Pre-Masters combines a one-year postgraduate degree with a bespoke Pre-Masters programme year, offering non-UK students a pathway to postgraduate study at Queen Mary.

  • Two-year, integrated programme – English language, academic study skills and subject specific preparation in year 1
  • Gain practical teaching experience
  • Study in the UK’s top-ranked linguistics department (RAE 2008, RAE 2014)
  • Develop your expertise in specialist areas and enhance your career options
  • Perfect for recent graduates and ELT teachers who don’t have a linguistics background

The MA English Language Teaching with Integrated Pre-Masters Programme combines the 1-year MA in English Language Teaching with a tailored preparation year to provide a smooth transition for non-UK students who do not currently meet the requirements for direct entry onto the one-year programme.

The first year of this two-year programme prepares you for the challenge of addressing the theories,  concepts, and practice of the second year master’s programme, and provides you with in-depth knowledge and the opportunity to gain a higher classification of degree than you might achieve on the one-year programme.

The MA in English Language Teaching with Integrated Pre-Masters Programme is ideal if your prior education, and/or English language proficiency, does not enable you to apply for direct entry to the one-year programme.  The subject content and teaching methodology employed in Year 1 builds a skills set and provides a platform for successful participation in Year 2. Upon completion, you will be well placed to enter careers in English language teaching, education, and the voluntary sector.
