Course Description

The course begins with a discussion about how the term ‘inclusion’ can be interpreted. You will then explore policies and philosophies of inclusion in relation to both special educational needs and special provision, as well as to theories of social justice and equality for all pupils and students. 
Key concepts and debates from the disciplinary literature and recent research, models of inclusion and their implications for practice will be critically analysed, as will the range of contexts in which learning takes place. 
We will consider how to evaluate and develop policy and practices within individual educational institutions and analyse how far current educational contexts of performativity and high stakes accountability may affect developments in inclusionary thinking and practice.

Entry Requirements

  • you will need at least a 2.2 honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
  • or a relevant postgraduate or professional qualification
  • and/or appropriate work experience
  • EU and international students need IELTS 6.5 overall (no less than 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in any other band) or equivalent
