PG Dip Law

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    PgDip: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time

Course Description

his course provides a route into the legal professions for the non-law graduate. It is ideal for graduates with a non-law background who wish to develop a legal career. The course covers the key ‘foundation’ subjects required for a qualifying law degree. It is delivered by a mix of online learning activities, directed study and small group seminar sessions.

You will study in the heart of the Leeds legal community, which is the UK’s second largest and fastest growing legal centre. It is home to top ranking UK and international law firms, including Pinsent Masons, DLA Piper, Hammonds, Addleshaw Goddard and Eversheds. Over 180 law firms are based in the city, employing in excess of 8,000 professionals.

All students on the course have a professional mentor – a legal practitioner in the local area who can provide practical support and advice during the period of study and provide work-based learning and career opportunities.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. Applicants who do not have a UK undergraduate degree should also provide a certificate of academic standing from the SRA. If you have been awarded a non-qualifying law degree or wish to apply for exemptions from modules on the Postgraduate Diploma in Law you must apply to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for a certificate which proves you have been granted exemptions from this course.

We require evidence of this before confirming your offer. You must apply to the SRA for exemptions before May of the year you wish to commence the course.

All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional; all applicants should satisfy our University English language requirements – IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
