PGCE Secondary Education with QTS: Physical Education

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    PGCE: 1 year full-time

Course Description

Accredited by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) and the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted).

Physical Education is just as important as academic study. Through promoting positive attitudes to exercise and healthy lifestyles, you’ll help children remain in top condition at school and throughout life. We offer everything you need to make it as a successful PE teacher, helping children improve their physical performance in fun and creative ways. If you have a genuine desire to teach, a commitment and enthusiasm for working with adolescents, and a love of physical education and school sport, we look forward to working with you.

You’ll help contribute to the development of problem-solving skills and self-esteem in today’s youth, enhancing their physical confidence and abilities. We believe that physical activity should be combined with the cognitive processes involved in making decisions and selecting, refining, evaluating and adapting skills and movements. If you share these values and beliefs, then take the first step towards a future as a successful PE teacher inspiring the athletes of tomorrow.

Student Destinations

With QTS built into the course, you’ll be able to apply for a position as a secondary school PE teacher straight after graduation. You may also consider entering further and higher education establishments to lecture on PE and/or sports related courses. This sometimes requires the acquisition of a qualification at masters level.

Module Details

You’ll experiment with a range of teaching styles and strategies, and while you may bring an expertise to one activity area, you’ll learn to teach all six key activities with confidence. You will learn about the physical education curriculum, from the framework provided by the National Curriculum through to the individual lesson plans that teachers use to support learning in their classrooms. Sessions in university support you in finding out how to use ICT effectively in your lessons, how to mark books and assess work, and how the new Key Stage 3 and 4 curriculum is structured.
