MA PgDip Spanish Language Teaching

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

    MA/PGDip 1 year (full-time)

    2 years (part-time)

Course Description

With our unique master’s in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, you will graduate with a good knowledge of applied linguistics and the methodologies of teaching Spanish to foreign students. This course is equally ideal for those who studied Spanish at undergraduate level, and for mother-tongue Spanish students with a degree in any discipline who wish to teach.

You will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to be a proficient teacher of Spanish – and any other languages you may have at a high level. You will reflect on the structure of Spanish and how to communicate it to your students, and be encouraged to bring elements of Spanish culture into your teaching to make your lessons more meaningful and enjoyable.

The methodologies you will learn are informed by research and current best-practice. You will have the chance to consolidate your learning with hands on teaching experience either onsite at Roehampton or at another institution that teaches Spanish. The programme is taught in both English and Spanish, and your dissertation can be either language.

You will benefit from the University’s close relationship with the Instituto Cervantes, the official institution for the promotion of Spanish language and culture, and the resources and connections it offers.

Entry Requirements

You should usually hold a second-class honours degree (certain programmes may require a 2:1) from a recognised British or overseas university. Advice on recognition can be obtained from the Admissions Office. Non-graduates with appropriate professional qualifications will be considered on an individual basis by Programme Conveners; contact details can be found on the individual programme page. Applicants will be expected to apply and register for the full master’s award. Those with a third-class honours degree are encouraged to complete an application as we will consider an applicant’s wider circumstances in making a decision on an application. Please contact admissions@roehampton.ac.uk if you have any questions.
